There are over 8 billion people worldwide, and nearly 5 billion of them have access to the internet. The widespread usage of mobile phones in recent years has changed many things. If you are lucky enough to be reading this, it’s almost certain that most of your friends have Facebook or Instagram.

Social Networks

Well, that’s what happens in almost every country on our planet, societies gather on a few different social networks and interact with all of their likes. Anyway, without further ado, let’s see the most used apps all over the world.

1. Facebook
You were almost certainly hoping to see this. Facebook is one of the services of the company Meta, founded in 2004. This app was not the first social network but was the first to be massively used, reaching 1 billion users in 2012.
Today, Facebook has 3 billion users, gathering almost 38% of the world’s population; in other words, 2 out of 5 persons use Facebook. However, Meta has other services that also deserve to be on this list, but we’ll talk about that later.

2. YouTube

YouTube is the number one platform dedicated to videos. Also, it’s one of the most visited websites with over 2.5 billion users. This platform was really important in the last decade (and still is), and there have emerged thousands of new content creators: YouTubers.
During the last few years, YouTube has been a portal where all types of content are created, for the first time in history, it’s been possible for content creators to achieve a close connection with their followers. This has also been a great place for new forms of entertainment to be developed, and also old ways of entertainment but applied differently.

3. WhatsApp
Were you looking for another product from Meta? Well, here it is. WhatsApp is the most important chatting app in the whole world, with over 2 billion users. This app was created in 2009 and bought by Facebook (called Meta nowadays) in 2014 for 21.8 billion dollars.
WhatsApp hasn’t changed a lot in the last decade, but even that way, it has been very difficult for any alternative app to reach that kind of success. In the future, the chat app is planned to acquire new functions (for example: making payments).

4. Instagram
Instagram is the app where everyone shares their aesthetic pics and fine tastes, but it’s also an unlimited source of fun and amusement. This social network comes to be some sort of more visually pleasing Facebook, and it’s worked out pretty well.
Instagram gathers 2 billion users all over the world, and it’s a place where the looks are amazing. Another interesting fact about this platform is that it is the property of … wait for it … yes, Meta. It seems that Mark Zuckerberg has a thing for being CEO of apps with billions of users.

5. WeChat
China is a different market since the market there is restricted for some services. The Asian country has a different social network: WeChat.
Being the most used app in the most populated country is not a matter of luck, this country has a population of 1.41 billion, and the app reaches 1.3 billion users, just connect the dots.
What does WeChat do? Some call this app the Chinese Whatsapp, but WhatsApp wished, WeChat is a lot more than a chat app.
WeChat has a lot of common functions you’d expect from a chat app: messages, audio, calls, facetime, etc. But what about Marketplace, auto-translation, payments, and microBlog? All of those features you can get from WeChat, and considering that the app is used by almost everyone in China, you can imagine its usefulness.

6. TikTok
Another Chinese app, but this one with its main success outside of China, TikTok has had incredible growth in the last years, its unique format has managed to gain people’s love. Some people don’t like this app, but the truth is… TikTok is great, here you can find videos of any subject you like.
This platform has proven to have achieved the perfect format to grab people’s attention and become addictive. The app has 1 billion users worldwide. An interesting fact is that TikTok is banned in China.

7. Facebook Messenger
Facebook Messenger is another chatting app from Meta, but this one lets you chat without getting off Facebook. Also, Messenger lets you chat with your Facebook friends without needing to have their phone numbers (like in WhatsApp). This app has some other interesting features, but the main one is its association with Facebook.
Messenger has 931 million users around the world, making it the fourth most used Meta app, and the seventh in the world.
